Understand

What a live scan business actually is

You are a trusted capture desk between an applicant and the agencies that need their fingerprints. The job is to collect identity data and biometrics correctly, package the transaction, and send it on the right channel—then be able to prove what happened.

Capture

Ten-prints (rolls, flats, slaps) on an FBI Appendix F certified scanner, with quality checks before anyone leaves the chair.

Route

ORI numbers, purpose codes, and state or federal destinations. The same person can need FDLE, FBI, AHCA, or a printed FD-258 depending on the reason.

Account

Receipts, transaction IDs, and status. In Florida, applicants can check FDLE CWCS status with a TCN. You still need your own books for what you charged.

You do not “run background checks” in the investigative sense. Agencies do. You capture and transmit. That distinction matters for licensing, insurance, and how you describe the service on your website.
