Live scan office only vs multi-service

The other fork is whether the door says fingerprinting—or fingerprinting plus notary, packing, tax, passport photos, or a licensing school. Both can work. They are different businesses sharing a scanner.

Live scan office only

One product, one Google listing, one trained operator path. Easier to look like a compliance desk to hospitals and schools. You need enough fingerprint volume—or a cheap room—to cover rent. Branding and reviews stay about capture quality and wait time, not packing tape.

Fits operators who want institutional contracts and a professional waiting-room story.

Multi-service shop

Live scan next to notary, shipping, tax, real-estate services, or a training school. Shared rent and extra reasons to walk in. The failure mode is an untrained counter person on the platen, a confused Google Business Profile, and live scan treated as a side hustle.

Fits you if the other service already has traffic—and you still name a live scan operator and a fee menu.

Multi-service is not “do everything on day one.” Add live scan as a named desk with its own hours, fees, and login. The notary stamp and the scanner should not share a drawer and a password.
